According to testimony, the Full Moon Party began long ago in 1983. On Koh Phangan’s

famous Haad Rin beach, twenty travelers gathered at wooden beach huts under the full moon. One Backpacker was having birthday & others wanted to celebrate it. Paradise Bungalows made a small party around the fire, ‘with music and dancing and laughs’, to welcome their guests. A drumming and guitar session under the light of the full moon! They had so much fun they decided to party again the next full moon, and the next after that. And so the Full Moon Party was born.

During the early 1990’s, between 300-500 people began to turn up for the Full Moon Party.  It started with few hippies & backpackers having a small house party on the beach, as the word of mouth spread it turned into a one big Music Moment.

By the late 1990’s, up to 10,000 people arrived in high season. And by the year 2000, word was out, and Haad Rin would change forever. TIME magazine had popularized Koh Phangan in a 1999 article, and on Millennium New Years Eve 50,000 people arrived for the Full Moon Party celebrations! Every backpacker wanted to travel to exotic Koh Phangan Island to attend this party after it was featured in the Hollywood movie, ‘THE BEACH’ starting Leonardo DiCaprio.

The music scene have also changed a lot over the years, from country & contemporary rocks the genre has changed to anything & everything. In mid 90s the psychedelic trance culture took over with easy availability of chemical drugs. Now the Full Moon Party is a giant festival-like party with a lot of drinking, dancing, drugs, and sex. Each bar has its own sound system, so you’ll hear different music loudly blasting onto the beach every few feet. The beach itself is lined with people selling alcohol, fire dancers putting on shows, and little booths selling glow-in-the-dark face paint.

Most of the travelers come in 3-4 days prior to the party to relax, on the day of event a lot

of people flock from neighboring island. You’ll see people start drinking in the afternoon, and most people start heading to the beach around 9 pm. The crowd p
eaks around midnight to 2 am. On New Year’s Eve, the beach will be full by 8 pm.

I suggest you come with advance hotel booked so that you dont have to waste time hunting for accommodation suiting your requirements. (For Hotel Booking in Koh Phangan Contact – Travstore)
